What to Do After Giant Piranha

Keep the required Giant Piranha Skeleton drop.

Return the Skeleton to the Forest quest chain.

The completed quest interaction registers Desert progression.
EXPECTED RESULT
Desert becomes available after the Giant Piranha Skeleton is turned in and the completed quest interaction is claimed.
