MULTIPLAYER · ONLINE CO-OP · CHECKED FOR PATCH 1.0.10

How to Fish Multiplayer & Co-op Guide

Host a lobby, invite Steam friends, confirm the current player limit, and diagnose connection problems without mixing player reports with official fixes.

WHY DOES STEAM STILL SAY 1–4?

The store description still uses the launch wording. The newer official Patch 1.0.4 notes expanded lobby support to up to 8 players.

PLAYER COUNT

How Many Players Can Play How to Fish?

How to Fish currently supports lobbies of up to 8 players following Patch 1.0.4. The Steam store may still show the original 1–4 player wording.

SINGLE-PLAYER
Yes
ONLINE CO-OP
Yes
CURRENT LOBBY CAP
Up to 8
PRIVATE INVITE-ONLY LOBBY
Since 1.0.5

Important: the official lobby ceiling is not a promise that every network or large session will connect without trouble. Larger-session failures remain a player-reported issue, not a different official player cap.

FAST SETUP

How to Play How to Fish With Friends

Keep the normal flow simple. Diagnose connection symptoms only after the host has an active lobby and the group is on the same patch.

HOST FLOW

  1. 01

    Update the group

Confirm the host and every guest are running the same current patch.

  2. 02

    Create the lobby

Host the session, then choose the visibility that fits the group.

  3. 03

Use a private lobby for friends

Private invite-only lobbies have been available since Patch 1.0.5.

  4. 04

    Send the invitation

Use the in-game invite flow and let each friend accept the invitation.

  5. 05

    Confirm the crew

Check that everyone is present before the group continues the run.

HOW TO INVITE FRIENDS

Use a private invite-only lobby

Patch 1.0.5 officially added private lobbies that can only be joined through an invitation. It also added an in-game session-type setting that requires a restart after changing.

  1. 01

    Create the lobby

  2. 02

    Choose private / invite-only

  3. 03

    Send a fresh invitation

Player-reported menu path: a community thread describes Esc → Invite Friend. Because this is not documented in the official patch notes, the guide labels it as a player report rather than a guaranteed path for every patch.

SOLO & CO-OP

Can You Play How to Fish Solo?

Yes. The Steam store lists both Single-player and Online Co-op. That confirms the available modes; it does not by itself prove that every encounter has identical difficulty or behavior in both.

Solo vs. Co-op

The reliable difference today is group size: solo is supported, and online lobbies support up to eight. Claims about scaling, shared money, or synchronized unlocks are held back until they can be verified.
